Last Sunday the senior representative team punished a depleted Cowra outfit and retained the Grinstead Cup.

Losing the toss, Young was asked to bowl first and off the back of great opening bowling from Josh Platt and Brendan Whitechurch, Cowra where in trouble right from the start.

Patient and well executed, opening spells allowed the Young team to allow all the pressure to Cowra and a constant flow of wickets off the back of a massive amount of maiden overs saw Young dismiss the visitors for just 44 runs.

The pick of the bowlers was debutant Pat Irvine who managed four wickets for the day and was unlucky not to have a fifth to his name.

Chasing the small total, the Young batters had to work hard and passed the total with the loss of just the one wicket, the pick of the batsman again being Matt McKnight who has been a tower of strength this season for the representative team.

This Sunday Young will attempt to withstand a strong challenge against Molong in an attempt to keep the cup for yet another week.

On a local level, last Saturday saw some one sided results.

Services Club Blues scored 350 runs (Cameron Jones 110, Josh Platt 70) in their victory over Burrangong, Commercial Coyote dismissed Young Ones for just 56 in their eight wicket victory (Kyle McGovern five wickets) and Royals scored 257 (Luke Eldridge 72) in their win over Boorowa.

Tomorrow’s fixtures will see a cracking game between two of the three undefeated teams, Blues and Royals.

It will be great to see the representative opening bowlers going head to head in tomorrows game, and should see two really good spells of opening bowling from the pair.

The draw for tomorrow’s games:

Services Club Blues versus Empire Royals @ Alfred Oval.

Boorowa versus Great Eastern Power @ Boorowa.

Bears versus Services Club Young Ones @ Cranfield Oval.

Coyotes have the bye.

The senior representative squad for Sunday’s (10am) Grinstead Cup at Alfred Oval, Young is Ben Allen, Brendan Croese, Geoff Palmer, Matt McKnight, Max McIllhatton, Luke Eldridge (c), Jake McIllhatton, Josh Platt, Brendan Whitechurch, Duncan Cameron, Kyle McGovern, and Luke Cosgrove.

BOWLING: Brendan Whitechurch opened last weekend’s game against Cowra with some great bowling. (cricvcowra3)
